Analog-Theater 2.0

A friend of mine recommended a movie to me for these reviews, Hot Rod starring Andy Samberg.

The movie is about a guy named Rod who thinks he’s a stunt man, attempted different jumps on a moped. All of his jumps end in failure. The first time he was trying to jump a singe van and the ramp collapses when he goes up it. The second jump he tries is over the public swimming pool. He ends up riding right off of the ramp and into the pool. When he comes home from the pool jump he finds out that his step dad, whose respect he’s trying to earn by fighting him, is dying because they can’t afford a heart transplant. Rod, after going to the woods to dance and falls down the side of a mountain, decides that he’s going to jump fifteen buses to raise the money for transplant so that he can beat up his step dad.

It was while Rod was training for the big jump that I turned off the movie. The character Rod was just and idiot. He was a lousy stunt man and couldn’t realize it. His crew were equally stupid. I think the very first scene sums it up.

Rod: “Did you reinforce the take off ramp?”

One of the crew: “No, we didn’t have time.”

And then Rod still tries the jump. And the ramp collapses. I guess after all those crashes, Rod might be brain damaged.

From what I understand, at the end of the movie he makes the jump over 15 buses, but lets go of the bike before he lands and crashes. After waking up from a coma, he finds out that they raised the money for the surgery and he goes back to fighting his step dad to win his approval.

There are very few movies that I’ve actually turned off or walked out on. This is one of those few. I’m giving this movie the lowest rating so far, -2 bananas.
