The Dark Knight

Possibly the greatest movie of the Summer.  I saw the midnight showing last night.  I want to go see it again and then preorder the DVD.  Amazing performance by the late Heath Ledger, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets nominated for an Oscar for it.  Christian Bale’s performance wasn’t bad, but Ledger really stole the scene.  I love his wardrobe, too.  I’m going to have to see if Hot Topic or some other place is selling his outfit.

Okay, enough gushing and time for some details.  I’ll try not to spoil anything for those who were the victims of sold out tickets.

The movie is a sequel to Batman Begins and takes place an undisclosed time afterwards.  Bruce Wayne is moonlighting as Batman.  Wayne Manor is still being rebuilt after the fire.  Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) is a lieutenant and has his own special task force.  Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) has been elected district attorney.  Scarecrow is still loose and the Joker is causing trouble.

Heath Ledger was the best Joker (compared to the one that battled Adam West and Jack Nicholson’s version).  He was a very believable pychotic villian.   I loved the scene where he was sitting in the jail.  He was all calm and quiet while the other inmates rattling the bars.  Then he clapped with the other cops when Gordon got promoted.

The Dark Knight brought in about $18.5 million just from the midnight screenings, setting a new midnight debut record.  The former record was held by Star Wars Episode II which brought in $16.9 million.
