Videos, Books, and other stuff
I know it’s been a couple weeks since my last post. I’ve been a bit busy and haven’t found the time to write up what I wanted. But today I am forcing myself.
First of all, I want to share some videos that people have shared with me. The first one is by far the best and is actually very touching.
After watching it, I bought myself a violin and some pantene shampoo, however I still don’t know how to play. Maybe I need more shampoo?
Next up is the trailer for Brutal Legend. After watching the trailer, I want to buy this game, it looks stupid fun.
Lastly, this is an old video but someone shared it with me recently, so I figured I’d share it again.
Now on to books. I was recently talking to a young lady about books. It appears that both of us are avid readers and she was asking me for my prefered books. I gave her a short list and I decided that I could share with all of you.
First of all is the Wheel of Time series, starting with The Eye of the World. It is a great epic fantasy series, though a bit long. The lastest book is coming out in a few days.
The other series I’m a big fan of is the Rogue Angel series. The first book of the series was Destiny. I’ve lost count of how many books are in the series, but its at least a dozen. The series gives me the impression of modern day pulp novels. It’s an episodic series with tons of pop culture and ancient history. And there is a magic sword.
For someone looking for a more scientific read, The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory is a good read. Brian Greene’s writing is very engaging and easy to understand.
I also want to mention the Malazan series by Steven Erikson that started with Gardens of the Moon. If you like the Wheel of Time series, you’ll probably like this series. It’s another epic fantasy series with a very well crafted setting. The penultimate book, Dust of Dreams
, is coming out in January.
And finally, I want to mention His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass). It is a very interesting and entertaining read. And for sake of the religious fanatics, this is fiction. There are no witches in the artic and no church trying to destroy the universe. There is a companion book to the series that explains some of the concepts they touched on with real world physics, The Science of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials
. It is written in a way that is very easy to understand (probably because it was aimed for young adults).
I think I’ll just stop here for the day.
